Police Explorer Post

Springfield Township Police Department, in conjunction with The Boy Scouts of America, sponsors a law enforcement explorer program. This program is open to young men and women between the ages of 15 and 21. The program provides training and education to the members in dealing with all aspects of police work. Members of our Explorer Post meet weekly to learn and practice police procedures along with traffic stops and felony stops.

The Explorer Post competes annually in a competition sponsored by The Boy Scouts of America to demonstrate their efficiency in a number of judged scenarios. Several past members of our Explorer Post have gone on to a career in law enforcement. Five officers currently with Springfield Township Police Department were former members of our Explorer Post.

Explorers meets every Tuesday from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m.

Springfield Township Police Department Explorer Program is currently accepting applications for its Police Explorer Program.  The program is designed for young men and women between the ages of 15-20 years of age who have an interest in law enforcement and would like to explore the option as a possible career choice.

This program is affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America through its Learning for Life Division. The Explorer program is designed to give young men and women actual hands on experience in various  areas of Law Enforcement to help them in making career  choices in the future.  The Springfield Township Police Department Explorer program is an award-winning program that has won several “Overall Best Explorer Post” in tri-state competitions over the past several years. Young men and woman in our post receive practical classroom lessons and training in a number of law enforcement areas from our officers. They also have the opportunity to interact with Springfield Township Officers during these training session and ride alongs. Many of our Explorers have gone on into a career in law enforcement, in fact a number of Springfield Township Police Officers have been former Explorers from our program.
