Fire Levy 2017
2017 Levy Facts
On the ballot November 7, 2017
What is Issue 23?
Issue 23 is the renewal of the existing 1-mill levy for Springfield Township Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for another 5 years.
Why is this levy being proposed?
Issue 23 is being proposed because the current 1- mill levy for Springfield Township Fire and EMS will expire at the end of 2017. Without the renewal, the Springfield Township Fire and EMS Department revenues will be reduced by approximately $560,000 per year.
Is this a new tax?
NO. Voters approved the current 1-mill levy in 2012. A renewal would simply allow the levy to continue for another 5 years at the same rate without raising taxes.
Will Issue 23 raise my taxes?
NO. Your taxes will not increase. This will renew the current 1-mill levy which is already in place.
Why is it needed?
Passage of Issue 23 allows Springfield Township to continue providing best-in-class fire and paramedic service to the community. Our 2016 stats prove that Springfield Township continues to be within the top three busiest fire/EMS departments in the county. Last year we responded to 4,328 dispatches for medical related emergencies and 1,394 for fire emergencies. Demand for service has increased every year over the past 20 years and is projected to continue to do so. Continuing the current levy will provide the necessary resources in order to keep pace with demand and maintain our excellent service to the community.
