Nuisance Process

The Ohio Revised Code §505.87 gives authority to Ohio townships to address nuisances such as high grass and trash on properties within the township. The nuisance code states that townships may enter on to private property to abate nuisances after a notification process, and then to assess the property owner for the cost of the clean-up. Ohio’s Nuisance Code is regulated and enforced in Springfield Township by the Administration Department and Public Works Department.

Once a violation is reported to the township, abatement of the nuisance cannot occur until a legally required notification process has taken place, and the Board of Trustees has adopted a resolution declaring the property a nuisance.
